Craft your world

Spacecraft hosts playful craft workshops that bring teams together.

The world needs art, camaraderie, and creative expression more than ever, and our growing catalog of online classes and virtual experiences is designed with that in mind.

We launched as a shared community space in October 2019 with a cozy, well-stocked arts and crafts studio on Capitol Hill. We closed our physical doors just five months later due to the pandemic, and opened our virtual doors to continue cultivating creative community.

We’re also looking forward to hosting workshops in-person again through partnerships with event spaces, breweries, and Seattle parks.

Throughout our journey, we’ve learned that DIT** crafts can take us beyond physical space and time - it’s the shared laughs, skills, and fabulous creations that power this ship!

Join us and be amazed by all you can do!

**Do-It-Together 😉

“If you're alive, you're a creative person.

You and I and everyone you know are descended from tens of thousands of years of makers. Decorators, tinkerers, storytellers, dancers, explorers, fiddlers, drummers, builders, growers, problem-solvers, and embellishers—these are our common ancestors.

The guardians of high culture will try to convince you that the arts belong only to a chosen few, but they are wrong and they are also annoying. We are all the chosen few.”

Alison Cantor

Owner & Founder
Doodle Therapy Instructor

What's your name? Pronouns?

Alison Cantor, she/her

Any nicknames?

Friends call me Ali, but when acquaintances do it, it freaks me out! 😅

My playa name is Rain, so lots of people call me that too.

What's your favorite color?

Any shade of aqua / turquoise / mint / teal. Also yellow / gold. And fuchsia. Is that too many?

What's your favorite medium?

Oof, this is a hard one! There's way too many to choose, but I'd say my current fave is crochet. I love the flexibility of it! Our first pandemic winter, I crocheted 36 hats. Now I'm onto amigurumi, baby blankets, and sweaters.

What do you love about teaching?

My absolute favorite thing is surprising people with their talent. SO MANY people get their creativity stomped out by our culture of competition and critique. With just a little nudge, I get to watch that spark spring back to life. There's nothing better!!

What's one thing you wish more people knew about you?

That I'm a terrible ecologist! My background is in environmental policy, and I'm passionate about climate politics. Because I care about sustainability, people assume I'm gonna be able to identify that plant. I 100% cannot.

Where can I stalk you online?

You better be following @spacecraftseattle! & I'm a little shy about sharing my personal IG, but you're more than welcome to stalk my cats @edward_and_oliver

Leah Justice

Needle Felting Instructor

What's your name? Pronouns?

Leah Justice, she/her

Any nicknames?

Nope

What's your favorite color?

I absolutely love bold colours, rainbows, and I especially like really saturated shades of yellow 💛🌞

What's your favorite medium?

Needle felting, duh! But I also really like exploring new mediums. I find a lot of freedom in picking up a medium I’m not familiar with and allowing myself to explore it without expectations, giving myself permission to “mess up”. I love the freedom of art and mixing mediums is so exciting!

What do you love about teaching?

I love learning from the lovely people in my classes. There is always something; a different technique (that they know or have discovered through exploration during class), good reading suggestions, interesting facts, and so much more. I learn something every time I teach and am always blown away by the creativity and beauty people share.

What's one thing you wish more people knew about you?

I absolutely want to hear about and see pictures of your pet(s)- furry, scales, whatever they have, whatever they are!

Where can I stalk you online?

I’m on Instagram @softTakoFelts, and of course you want to see my sweet pup @honeybunnybobbibee

Kelly Duff

Wood Burning Instructor

What's your name? Pronouns?

Kelly Duff, she/her

Any nicknames?

My mom calls me Kell, and my girlfriend took that one on recently, too.

What's your favorite color?

Oil-spill black - rainbow but make it moody.

What's your favorite medium?

Wood or fabric

What do you love about teaching?

The things I learn from the folks taking the class! A different perspective flips the craft on its head, and it becomes something entirely new. "Have you ever tried...?" are my favorite questions.

What's one thing you wish more people knew about you?

I love pushing the envelope on what life could look like—to challenge what "success" looks like. I started teaching wood burning classes out of a houseboat in Seattle as a way to stay creative and as supplemental income to my full-time Art Director job. Two years later, I'm on the road in a van diving deeper into my craft. It took losing my FT job to realize that I can build the life I want with what I have, to take myself as an artist seriously, and to understand that my happiness is my success. I owe a large part of my found happiness to Alison, founder of Spacecraft!

Melissa Galbraith

Embroidery Instructor

What's your name? Pronouns?

Melissa Galbraith, she/her

Any nicknames?

My husband nicknamed me MJ in college and it's stuck ever since.

What's your favorite color?

Right now, terracotta! Ask me in a few weeks and it might change. Haha

What's your favorite medium?

Embroidery!

What do you love about teaching?

That ah-ha moment when something clicks and excitement lights up your face. It's such a joy to see you try something new. I love helping you find a new crafty passion.

What's one thing you wish more people knew about you?

I love to bake and watch true crime shows. Cookies are my go-to and I've probably watched almost everything on the Discovery+ true crime section at this point
